In the spring of 2024, a jury composed of Finnish university students specializing in French awarded the Finnish Goncourt Choice to “Triste tigre” (Sad Tiger) by Neige Sinno. This book, which addresses in a raw and touching way the sexual abuse that Sinno suffered in her childhood, was published in Finnish in October 2024. We thus invite you to join us for a discussion on the translation process and the work itself on November 28th between 5 PM and 7PM.

During the event, the book’s translator and the recipient of several translation awards, Sampsa Peltonen, will present the work, its translation process in Finnish, and the conversations he had along the way with Neige Sinno. Another perspective to the book will be given by the students who participated in the Finnish Goncourt Choice as they share their thoughts on the text. A French perspective will be provided Anne Riippa, professor of translation studies at the University of Helsinki, who will offer her insights on the book within its societal and literary context in France. She will also discuss the criteria guiding the selection of books translated from French to Finnish.

If you wish to attend the event in person, please register using the link below. If you prefer to join online, no registration is required; you can connect using this link.

The event will be conducted in Finnish, except for excerpts and examples taken from the original French text.
