The Francophonie Month is celebrated worldwide in March with various events related to the French language and Francophone cultures. The French Institute of Finland joins the festivities of this month by offering numerous activities that highlight the diversity of Francophone countries and members of the International Francophonie Organization (OIF).

March 1-31: Francophone Literature Corner
To celebrate the Francophonie Month, our library invites you to discover a literary space that celebrates literature from the member countries of the International Francophonie Organization.

March 6-20: Exhibition, Opening and Round Table – Enlightening Journey
Enlightening Journey is a photo and video project of young migrant students enrolled in the “French as a Schooling Language” program at Jean-Baptiste Corot High School in Beauvais, France. Through an exhibition and a round table discussion, we invite you to delve into the theme of integration and language learning both in France and in Finland.

March 20: Francophone Short Film Festival
Our Francophone Short Film Festival allows you to enjoy a day of cinematic gems from French-speaking and French-loving countries all over the world! Whether you’re in the mood for a film that makes you laugh, touches you, or sparks a deep thought, you’re sure to find a favorite among the works screened.

March 24: Film Concert – Annexions
Annexions is a powerful fusion of music and cinema presenting the story of a family in turmoil and the power of younger generations in surpassing it. The show is an Erasmus+ project including 35 young musicians as well as professional and future actors from all over Europe.

March 25: Francophonie Concert
The distinguished Francophonie Concert by the French Institute and the Helsinki Chamber Orchestra celebrates classical music from the OIF countries. Austria being the guest of honor this year, the concert will feature works by some of the most renowned composers in classical music history!

April 5: Flavors of Francophonie
The Flavors of Francophonie is a gastronomic event that takes your taste buds on a journey through Francophone countries. With our 12 participating countries, we guarantee you a truly delightful gastronomic experience.

Culinary Workshop
Learn how to prepare three traditional dishes from Tunisia, Greece and France during our Culinary Workshop that will take place in Oodi Central Library! The date will be published soon.

Other activities:
In addition to the events described above, the French Institute of Finland will collaborate with several embassies and schools in Finland to organize classroom visits focusing on the theme of French language around the world. Just like the during the first edition of these visits in 2024, Francophone ambassadors will visit several Finnish classes to introduce their countries and discuss the role of the French language in the respective countries.
