Papanosh “A Very Big Lunch”

April 12 - 19, 2023

Here is the new adventure of the abundant French quintet: Papanosh portrays the imaginary world of author Jim Harrison. Their European journey kicks off at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam on April 8th. They hit eight concerts in Finland from April 12th to 19th and ten concerts follow in the Baltics from April 21st to 30th.

Papanosh is a young quintet that devours all kinds of styles and forms: jazz, folk, improvation and experimental. Their new album on Enja Records – Yellow Bird A Very Big Lunch is inspired by Jim Harrison (1937-2016), the American writer best known for his novella Legends of the Fall. Through the excitements and the doubts of the novelist, his love of nature and his vibrant testimony of an American reality, Sébastien Palis (piano and compositions) has drawn up the lines of an exhilarating score! Papanosh then opened up this songbook, staying true to what brings them closest to Harrison: a voracious appetite!

The five members of Papanosh are part of the Rouen-based multimedia art collective Les Vibrants Défricheurs (‘the vibrant pioneers’). In the jazz world, each of them independently has collaborated with an enormous list of more and lesser known artists, including Marc Ribot, Mike Reed, Théo Ceccaldi, and Archie Shepp’s Attica Blues Orchestra.
