An Enlightening Journey: The New Voices of France is a photo and video project. It highlights the importance of language learning in integration through stories of young migrant students enrolled in the “French as a Schooling Language” (FLS) program at Jean-Baptiste Corot Vocational School (Beauvais, France). In Helsinki, the project includes two components:
Exhibition and Opening: The photo exhibition of An Enlightening Journey celebrates diversity, the resilience and successes of migrant students at Jean-Baptiste Corot Vocational School. Featuring numerous photographs and personal stories in the format of big portraits, the exhibition highlights the importance of integration and education and language learning of young migrants. The exhibition also features an opening in which we’ll be able to see exclusive video material of the project and enjoy the presence of students and personnel from Jean-Baptiste Corot Vocational School.
Panel Discussions -Integration of Migrants in France and in Finland: After addressing the theme of immigration through young vocational school students in France, a Finnish perspective will be added to the thematic by organizing panel discussions with Finnish and French immigration professionals; within the 9 speakers, you can find the parliamentary deputy and vice-mayor Nasima Razmyar, the immigration coordinator of the city of Vihti, Elina Vanamo and post-doctoral researcher from Helsinki University, Mandira Halder.
Event Schedule and Practical Information:
- Exhibition – An Enlightening Journey: The exhibition will take place between March 6-20 at the French Institute of Finland and at the Helsinki Main Railway Station. The language of the exhibition is French. Free entry.
- Exhibition Opening – An Enlightening Journey: The exhibition opening will be organized at the French Institute of Finland on March 6 from 5 PM to 7 PM in English. Free entry upon registration.
- Panel Discussions – Integration of Migrants in France and in Finland: The discussion, conducted in English, will take place at the Helsinki City Hall on March 7 between 1.50 PM – 5.30 PM. See the whole program here. Free entry.
