Night of Science: : “Arctic, new perspectives”.

This year, the Arctic Research Centre of the University of Lapland is joining forces with the French Institute of Finland for the 2022 edition of the Night of Science organised in Helsinki on 20th January 2022 at 17:00

3 scientists, specialists in Arctic issues, will speak on the theme: “Arctic, new perspectives”.

The speeches will be followed by a question-and-answer session and discussion between the researchers.

The speakers:

Florian Stammler is a research professor in arctic anthropology and the coordinator of the Anthropology Research Team at Arctic Centre, University of Lapland. He will tell us how the study of Arctic nomadism can inform us about the ways in which we humans can reshape our relations to our surroundings in a more sustainable way.

Monica Tennberg is a political scientist and leads the Northern Political Economy research group at the Arctic centre, University of Lapland, as a research professor. She will talk about possible new approaches to Arctic governance which combine societal multiplicity with ecological diversity crucial for advancing sustainability.

Nuccio Mazzullo is a senior researcher in anthropology at the Arctic Centre, , University of Lapland, specialized on indigeneity, perception of space and territoriality, oral history and narratives, mostly in Finnish Lapland and with Sami people. He will tell us how climate change is affecting Sámi livelihood and their relationship with nature and how they try to adapt in addressing this challenge.
