Molière’s Miser, translated by Arto af Hällström and directed by Vesa Vierikko, is a classic study not only of avarice but also the generation gap. The younger generation, driven by love, must counter-scheme to fulfil their own romantic goals. The author is definitely on their side. In Vierikko’s interpretation the play is a glorious concoction of outrageous make-up, wigs and costumes, highlighting the ridiculous.
