The Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française (DELF) and the Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (DALF) are official diplomas delivered by the French Ministry of National Education with a lifetime validity.
Description of the tasks and sample papers
DELF and DALF assess skills in the four fields of language learning described in the Common European Framework for Languages: reading, listening, writing and speaking.
There are 6 independent diplomas corresponding to the 6 levels of the Common European Framework for Languages: DELF A1, DELF A2, DELF B1, DELF B2, DALF C1, DALF C2.
To acquire the French nationality, you must prove a minimum of a B1 level.
To register in a university, you have to prove a B2 level for a bachelor’s program and a C1 level for a Master’s program.
To emigrate to Canada or Quebec, you have to demonstrate the highest possible level: the higher your level, the more points scored in your application.
If you wish to work in a French environment, DELF B1 or B2 or DALF C1 are appreciated by French companies.
