This discussion, organized in collaboration with the Science Centre Heureka, will address the artistic, scientific, societal, and legal perspectives on the use of AI in artistic creation:
Artistic: how do you create art with AI? What part do humans and machines play in this creation? Can we make a living from creating art using AI?
Scientific: ultimately, what is AI? Scientifically, is AI autonomous from human beings? How far can we go?
Societal: should we be afraid of AI; can AI create emotions; could AI one day replace humans?
Legal: AI and intellectual property: how is art created by AI regulated? Who owns the art, given that AI feeds off existing creation…? What is the current state of legislation? Are technological advances outpacing regulations?
The speakers are:
Hannu Töyrylä, visual artist, media artist and researcher who explores how to use artificial intelligence as an artistic tool, mainly using photographs.
Hannu Toivonen, professor at the University of Helsinki, expert in the fields of data mining, computational creativity, and artificial intelligence
Marion Carré and Valentin Schmite, authors of the book “Propos sur l’art et l’Intelligence artificielle”. This book redefines the notion of creativity by asking to what extent machines can be creative. The book also “resituates the question of the fear that can be engendered by the power of artificial intelligence: mankind is not about to be overtaken by the machine, because it still needs mankind to feed it with data that it compiles, classifies and compares”.

If you want to get to know the exhibition after the event (or before), the price of the entrance ticket is €10 between 15-20. Teachers who have registered and participate in the panel event can enter the exhibitions free of charge by showing the OAJ card at the Heureka info point.
