Whether you enjoy music, gastronomy, art, or quizzes, you will certainly find the perfect event in our programme to celebrate the Francophonie Month. All our events are free and open to the public.
March 1 – March 31: Francophone Literature Space
To celebrate the Francophonie Month, our library invites you to discover a literary space that celebrates the diversity of literature from the member countries of the Organisation Intrenationale de la Francophonie (OIF).
March 5: Francophonia Concert
The Francophonie Concert is a classical music concert organized with the Helsinki Chamber Orchestra. It highlights French and Francophone composers, with the guest of honor for the year being Switzerland. The concert will take place at Temppeliaukio Church on March 5th at 7 p.m. Free admission upon reservation.
March 9: The Flavors of Francophonie
The Flavors of Francophonie is a gastronomic event that allows you to discover the cuisines of numerous OIF member countries. This event will take place at the French Institute of Finland on March 9th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free admission upon reservation.
March 14: Francophonie Quiz
This quiz enables you to test your knowledge about the French language and the cultures of Francophone countries. Whether you’re a French language enthusiast or simply passionate about Francophone cultures, don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the diversity that characterizes Francophone countries! The quiz will take place in French at the French Institute of Finland on March 14th at 5 p.m. Free admission upon reservation.
March 18 – March 29: Exhibition: Francophonie – A Cultural and Linguistic Mosaic
This exhibition allows you to discover the diversity of the French language and Francophone cultures, not to mention historical anecdotes. It will take place both on-site at the Institute and online. We offer three linguistic versions of the exhibition: easy French, standard French, and Finnish. Free access.
March 21: Short film festival of the Francophone countries
During this event, you can enjoy short films from OIF member states all over the world. The event takes place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the French Institute of Finland. You are thus welcome to stay for as long as you like to watch the films that most interest you. All the movies are spoken or subtitled in French. Free access.
Other activities
In addition to the events described above, the French Institute of Finland will collaborate with several embassies and schools in Finland to organize classroom visits focusing on the theme of Francophonie around the world. During these visits, Francophone ambassadors will visit several Finnish classes to introduce their countries and discuss the role of the French language in the respective countries.
Beyond the classroom visits, the Franco-Finnish School of Helsinki will organize an escape game on March 19th for other Francophone schools in Helsinki as part of the celebrations for the Francophonie Month.
Lastly, to celebrate the Month of Francophonie, the Franco-Finnish Association of Joensuu will organize a French film week from March 18 to 23! This 19th edition of the event will feature 6 French films: “L’Attentat” by Yves Boissy (1972), “Three Colors: Blue, White, Red” by Krzysztof Kieslowski (1993, 1994, 1994), “The Red Island” by Robin Campillo (2023), as well as “The Passion of Joan of Arc” (1928) by Carl Theodor Dreyer.
