Brazilian choreographer Calixto Neto invites us to witness the preparation of a feijoada, the symbolic but controversial dish of Brazilian gastronomy. A roda de samba sets the rhythm of the evening. Songs, dance, personal and political stories intertwine with the cooking process and the ingredients of the feijoada. What are the cheapest meats and flesh on the market? Which bodies are most affected by the inequalities generated by Brazil’s place in the global order? Colonial heritage is questioned and transformed into a celebration of music, dance, text, and food. In the end, everyone eats the feijoada together.
The performance is part of Moving in November festival 3.-13.11.2022. As part of the festival, there will be an open discussion with the invited artist and local host called Soup Talk on the 4th of November at noon in Caisa.
